Many times I would be called an idiot for paying more money than usual for an exclusive graphic tee than buying 3 shirts with that money from a store like Old Navy or Aeropostale. Rather than listening to those ignorant people I kept doing what I do best, street wear shopping. As I got more into the lifestyle I learned more about the brands I shopped at. I learned that every piece of clothing sold had hours of hard work into it. The piece of clothing was not just made to wear; it was made to share a thought/idea/topic/message/etc. The people who own street wear brands aren’t just some cool hipster guys who make nice Tee’s; they’re hardworking people who have educated themselves whether academically or through the streets. The creators want to share something more than just clothes with their customers, it can be about art, politics, music, stereotypes, themes, perspective, graffiti, anything at all. Street wear brands don't just put a cool design on a Tee for no reason, and it’s not about the money because if it was, all of these brands would be trying to go mainstream which would not be considered street wear. Every time I buy a new Tee I usually learn something new.
Not only is street wear clothing meaningful, but it is also unique which is why the certain few thrive to cop some new gear. Street wear brands are very careful to make limited amounts of clothes to keep their brand exclusive and to ensure that their customers are wearing exquisite clothing. Those who wear street wear rise above those who just wear mainstream clothes just because Kim Kardashian wore it or whichever celebrity is hot out there nowadays. Street wear really makes a person feel like an individual in a society where “ethics” control. I’m not sure when or where street wear originated, but I do know that it has been breaking boundaries ever since. Street wear will forever and always be around, best believe that.
